Tara Kingi shares the tradition of hoop dancing with young and old alike!
Tara Kingi is Yakama, Tulalip, and Lumbee and has been Hoop Dancing for 19 years. She learned the Hoop Dance from her father, Terry Goedel, and has performed at various events including school assemblies, weddings, libraries, museums, festivals and pow wows. In 2019, Tara won first place at the Intermountain All-Women’s Hoop Dance Competition. She has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University and is a former elementary school teacher. Tara and her husband Marlin, who is Oglala Lakota, have been married for 14 years and have four daughters.
